WRESTLERS PROFILE
Wrestling fans waiting for idols

Reacting to Funfare’s recent Body Talk features on Mark Henry (said to be The Strongest Man in the World) and CM Punk (good-looking hunk), wrestling fans are eagerly waiting for the heavyweights’ SmackDown & ECW Live Tour at the Araneta Coliseum on July 10.
Watching them live in action is definitely far more breath-taking than just watching them on TV’s World Wrestling Entertainment WWE).
Aside from Mark Henry and CM Punk, also coming are the half-Filipino Batista, Jeff Hardy, Edge, Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho, Kane, The Great Khali, John Morrison, Christian, Jack Swagger, Shelton Benjamin, Melina, Gail Kim, Michelle McCool and many others.
Said fan Martin Sanchez, “I can’t wait to see all my favorite superstars live in Manila once more. It’s been years!”
Patrick Santos: “I always see them on TV. I have to see the action live!” Nathan dela Cruz: “It’s simply the best! The extravaganza has been around for years. It’s already an institution. It’s definitely a must-see!”

CM PUNK INTERVIEW
Aries Santos: Why don't we start with you telling us something about your childhood growing up?
CM Punk: Where to start? A lot of stuff happened when I was growing up. I remember hanging out with friends, wrestling, even as a kid. We'd all get together and wrestle. Eventually, when we grew up, they all moved on except for me, I really loved wrestling.
AS: Were you into backyard wrestling then?
CMP: Yeah, we'd all get together, make our own ring and jump off stuff. It was fun.
AS: Any interersting trivia about your tattoos?
CMP: All of my tattoos have meaning, they all have a story behind them. I'm gonna tell you about the one nobody's asked me about. The water-themed tattoo on my arm, with the koi fish, that's my good luck charm. I got it to represent what Bruce Lee said about flowing like water. I'm a big Bruce Lee fan.
AS: How much of being "straight-edge" is part of your image and how much of it is part of the real CM Punk?
CMP: It's not an image. I really am straight-edge, that's how I live my life. I'm not just a "straight-edge kinda guy," I am a straight-edge guy.
AS: With that said, why'd you choose a sport that's known for it's athletes who (well not all, but most, let's face it) live a not so clean lifestyle?
CMP: I really love wrestling. It's all I want to do. I don't let that other stuff bother me. I did a lot of other sports when I was younger like baseball and stuff like that but I really love wrestling the most.
AS: Could you tell us what your diet and training regimen is like?
CMP: I eat pretty much anything but I do try to keep my carbs low. For my training, I used to do weight training everyday, but not anymore. Now I like to incorporate variety in my training; I would weight train one day, then run the next, then do yoga... I try to do a variety of things, not just weight training.
AS: If you weren't a professional wrester what do you think you'd be doing instead?
CMP: Oh I don't know if I'd be doing anything else. Probably be an artist. A tattoo artist. I love drawing.
AS: Have you ever tattooed anyone?
CMP: No I haven't but my tattoo artist and I have been talking about it, he's been teaching me whenever we meet up.
AS: Do you feel like you've reached your prime as a strength athlete?
CMP: No, not even close. I have a long way to go. I've only been wrestling for 12 years and I'm still young, so no, I don't think so. I'll be around for quite some time.
AS: Yeah, even Rick Flair's been wrestling into his 50s and 60s.
CMP: (laughs) Yeah, exactly!
AS: If you could wrestle any person in history, who would you choose and why?
CMP: Hmm, another tough question. Anyone in history? Living or dead? Even if they're not wrestlers?
AS: Yeah, anyone living or dead.
CMP: There are a lot of people I admire... probably Bruce Lee because I'm such a big fan of his.
AS: That would be interesting to watch.
CMP: Yeah! But he'd probably kick my ass, though! (laughs)
AS: What do you think so far has been the highlight of your career?
CMP: There are a lot and it'd take forever. All the titles I won were highlights; when I won the intercontinental championship, I also became a tag-team champion, the Money In The Bank matches... it's hard to choose. Maybe the first title I won and the Money In The Bank I won at this year's Wrestlemania.
AS: How do you feel about coming here to Manila this coming July 10th as part of the ECW & Smackdown tour?
CMP: Oh, I'm very excited! I really want to see Manila for the second time. I've been here once before, but not for wrestling. I really couldn't remember why, it was a long time ago. I think it was for a wedding... or maybe something else... I think I attended a wedding or something but I didn't get to tour much back then so I'm really excited to come back and see more of Manila and perform.
AS: Both Raw and Smackdown have been here to the Philippines a few years back. What do you think will ECW deliver and show us that we've never experienced before?
CMP: Well it's gonna be exciting as always, but I think what you've never seen before is the mix of two shows in one. You've got all these amazing wrestlers who have never been here before performing for the very first time and it gives you more bang for your buck. You pay for one ticket but you get to see two amazing shows, so that's gonna be different and something new.
AS: Well, that's it. Thank you very much for your time, I appreciate it! It was a pleasure.
CMP: Hey, thank you! It's my pleasure. You have a nice day.
AS: Thanks, same here!
